Mississippi lawmakers have extended trade-secret protections to universities and local community colleges by exempting components tied to any business, scientific or technical study from the state’s Open Information Act prior to the study is published.
Gov. Phil Bryant signed Residence Bill 116, which becomes law July one.
Rep. Nolan Mettetal, chairman of the House Universities and Schools Committee and author of the bill, stated the loophole in the public information law was closed due to the fact firms have at instances employed public-data requests to consider to obtain particulars of analysis underway at schools.
